Untold Stories of Ceramic and Glass:
About This Project Group Project, Spring 2020
Through analysis of ceramic and glass vessels and sherds (fragments) found on the East Range at the University of Virginia, this project interrogates life, culture, and trade as experienced by the people who lived there and owned and/or worked with these objects.
This project was originally created as part of Professor Lisa Reilly's graduate course on ‘Digital Humanities.' It is a historical analysis of a series of ceramic vessels and sherds found on the University of Virginia’s East Range. The project was designed with a middle and high school student audience in mind, and presented to guide them through the steps of analyzing material objects as sources of information about the routines and cultures of the people that owned and/or used them. This storymap serves as an introduction to the ways in which found objects can provide insight into the people who would have used them as well as reveal more about the locations in which they were found. |
